Ellie goulding cd list
ELLIE GOULDING CD LIST SKIN
Atop production that incorporates lush R&B textures and atmospheric electronics, Goulding unloads half-a-decade of personal catharsis onto these tracks, finding comfort in her own skin on the hypnotic "Ode to Myself," coming to grips with time and her decade as a stealthy hitmaker in the music business on the powerful piano-backed "Woman," and ultimately finding peace on the rousing orchestral closer "Brightest Blue." Meanwhile, on the minimalist dance bop "Tide," she channels the xx and Frou Frou while celebrating the thrills of new love. A double album of sorts, the primary statement has growth and maturity at its core. Five years later, Goulding returned with her fourth album, Brightest Blue, a powerful reclamation of self that recaptures the simplicity of her debut and the vulnerability of Halcyon. After a pair of deeply intimate releases that preceded it, that 2015 set brought her international mainstream success but sacrificed her voice. Following the conventions of a digipack the copyright information is printed in a small font placed along the edge of the CD to again avoid diverting the audiences attention away from the important information.Coming off her expertly produced pop extravaganza Delirium, English singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding was exhausted and jaded. The record label is placed at the bottom of the CD in order to avoid distracting the audience away from the main focus which is the artists name and title of the album. The small hints of pink compliment with the front cover as well and attract the audience’s attention. The CD is a solid black colour associated with the front cover colour scheme. Additionally to further ensure this doesn’t happen the track list has been positioned in the middle of the back cover. This has been done so it doesn’t distract the audience away from the main focus (the track list). Other information such as the copyright laws, record labels and website are situated at the bottom of the cover. Unlike other digipacks this track list isn’t numbered which creates a relaxed atmosphere allowing the audience to purely focus on the songs.
The hint of pink has been incorporated into the track list to help it stand out as well as complimenting the overall theme of the digipack. The consistency also makes the album feel whole and complete. The black and pink theme continues to the spine and back cover enabling the audience to interlink both panels together with the front cover. The back cover is very simplistic similar to the front cover to ensure the most important element (the track list) is seen by the audience as this reflects the mood of the album whilst informing the audience as to what they should expect to hear. The album title ‘Halcyon’ is written in the same font and colour but just a bit smaller so it doesn’t cover the image of her. The colour pink also symbolises romance and femininity setting the mood for the album. The use of dark tones adds an elegant feel to the album cover and also adds an element of mystery as to what Ellie’s music will be like. The use of pink tones against the dark background allowing it to pop out of the page and be acknowledged by the audience.
The artists name is presented along the top of the digipack in a light pink sans serif font. Ellie is wearing dark clothing sticking with the black and white colour scheme to avoid distracting the audience away from her and the album title. Furthermore despite her hair covering parts of her face I can see she is wearing very minimal makeup emphasising her radiant skin and eyes aided by a clean stroke of eyeliner hinting that Ellie is still young and in the early stages of her career. From the image it appears Ellie is whipping her hair portraying her femininity. Ellie is presented in a close up shot positioned in the centre already signifying her importance. The front cover is very minimalistic and simple drawing most of the attention to the image of the artist.
